Costa Rica is world-famous for its incredibly progressive environmental policies. These policies have gotten the country to become the country with the largest proportion of protected lands and national parks in the world.

This has, in turn, made Costa Rica tours very popular among both American and European tourists, who come into Costa Rica fleeing their winter. In 2016 alone, one million tourists came into the country from the US while almost half a million came in from Europe.

The Guanacaste Province is particularly famous among tourists. This is because several of Costa Rica’s most renowned parks are in this incredible Pacific province.

What are some of the best locations in Guanacaste for exploring Costa Rica’s renowned biodiversity during my Costa Rica tours?

As we said, there are plenty of incredible parks in the Guanacaste Province, in particular for watching wildlife. Among the most incredible of these parks are the Monteverde Cloud Forest and the Palo Verde National Park.

Both of these incredible locations are perfect destinations if you want to discover Costa Rica’s biodiversity. The Monteverde Cloud Forest lets you explore a montane ecosystem; while the Palo Verde National Park lets you explore a mangrove ecosystem.

Where is the Monteverde Cloud Forest located?

This amazing private biological reserve is located in northern Guanacaste. Brimming with a marvelous diversity of wildlife, it serves as one of the most coveted ecological Costa Rica tours destinations.

Monteverde Cloud Forest- Landscape

It is called a cloud forest rather than a rainforest because of its altitude. The mountains intercept the northeast winds, which turn into clouds that go through the forest.

What is there to see in the Monteverde Cloud Forest?

The Monteverde Cloud Forest is home to more than thousands of plant and animal species. Discover its flora and fauna, including jaguars, quetzals, pumas, red-eyed tree frogs and over 400 species of orchids and 200 species of ferns.

Where is the Palo Verde National Park located?

This beautiful national park is located on the banks of the Tempisque River, about a one-hour drive away from the Liberia, Costa Rica airport. This is one of the best places for watching the local wildlife, in particular for bird watching.

What is there to see in the Palo Verde National Park?

The Palo Verde National Park is home to one of Central America’s most densely populated areas of migratory birds and aquatic species. During the rainy season, at least 250,000 birds reside here.

However, the best time to visit the park is during the dry season; because there is little vegetation during this time, there is much better visibility. Any avid birdwatcher would love traveling to this impressive park during their Costa Rica tours.
